Heartland Montessori is excited to offer a 4K program for four-year-olds, supported through the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families’ Get Kids Ready initiative. This state-funded program allows children to access free 4K while continuing to benefit from the rich developmental experience of a Montessori early childhood classroom.
Research consistently shows that high-quality Montessori early childhood programs can have a profound impact on children’s development, supporting not only strong academic readiness but also independence, executive functioning, social skills, and a lifelong love of learning. Rather than shifting to a traditional preschool model, Heartland Montessori’s 4K program continues to provide the authentic Montessori environment that is uniquely designed to support the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of the whole child.
The 4K instructional program takes place Monday through Friday from 8:30–11:30 a.m. During this time, children engage in hands-on learning with carefully designed Montessori materials that support early language, mathematics, concentration, problem-solving, and independence. Children learn through purposeful activity, exploration, and collaboration within a mixed-age classroom community where younger children learn from older peers and older children develop leadership and confidence.
Because the program is funded through the Get Kids Ready initiative, the 4K instructional portion of the day is free for families. Children must be four years old on or before September 1 to participate.
Families may also choose to extend their child’s day at Heartland Montessori for an additional fee. Extended care options are available with pick-up times at 12:30, 3:30, 4:30, or 5:30 p.m., allowing children to continue their work and play in a consistent Montessori environment.
