Private, Non-Profit, Parent Run School

Building our future (1994)

Our History

Heartland Montessori School, Inc. is an independent nonprofit run by a board of directors elected from its membership. The membership is comprised of parents of students, teachers and associates of the school.

Heartland was incorporated in early 1994 and began an Elementary Classroom in September 1994. The first Children’s House classroom began September 1995 and enrolls a maximum of 25 students. A satellite Children’s House classroom was added in New Richmond in 2003, which later relocated to Hudson. Heartland currently enrolls children between the ages of 2 years 9 months and 12 years old. Heartland is a Montessori learning environment providing an outstanding curriculum and underlying philosophy that respects each child’s individualized pattern of growth. Children actively pursue interests and answers at their own pace, developing independent thinking and self-teaching skills that will last a lifetime. Heartland Children’s House teachers are certified by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) and the school has earned AMI “School Recognition” for its Children’s House and Elementary programs.

The Marketing Committee helps to plan the schools advertising and marketing. It also helps to plan and promote events chaired by the other committees. HMS staff and volunteers may be available to speak to your company or service organization about our school or about Montessori education in general; please call if you are interested.

The Building and Grounds Committee oversees all maintenance and repair needs for our school including: painting, mowing, cleaning, and other indoor and outdoor repairs.

The Fundraising Committee leads important fundraising events like our annual live and silent auction.  Other fundraising tasks include soliciting for our Annual Fund, Scholarship Fund (contact with area businesses to solicit funds for needy families for tuition), and grant writing.

The Hospitality Committee helps other committees at school functions by providing food and helping to make the attendees feel welcome. These events include Open Houses, parent education nights, and mentoring opporunities for new and prospective families.
